Rosemary Broomham - NRMA On The Road - First 75 years

A little over three-quarters of a century ago, a group of farsighted individuals foretold the future of the motor car in Australia.

They went on to create the National Roads and Motorist's Association. By providing assistance at roadside emergencies, the NRMA became the motorists' greatest friend.

In growing to meet other needs even remotely connected with motoring, the NRMA came to exercise a major influence on private and public transport and the shape of Australian cities.

As it grew, it progressed from being an organisation struggling to attract members to becoming the most successful organisation of its type in the world, now delivering to over two million members a range of services which far outstrips original ambitions.

On the Road is more than the story of one institution.
